Steps
Your aged care in 5 steps
There are five steps to follow when you are considering joining us, or if you think your family member may need further support.
Step 1 - Assessing eligibility
If you are considering moving into an aged care home, you will first need an assessment with a member of an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT).
To find your local Assessment Team, or for more information about ACAT assessments, go to the My Aged Care website at or call 1800 200 422.
Step 2 - Finding an aged care home
The best way to find a place that suits you is to visit a few different homes.
We'd love to show you what Columbia can offer; simply book a tour using our Enquiry Form or contact our teams at our locations. You can find all our details on our Contact page. To help you with your discovery, you can download and print our complimentary checklist.
Step 3 - Fees and charges
The Australian Government pays for the bulk of aged care in Australia. But, as with all aged care services, it is expected you will contribute to the cost of your care if you can afford to do so.
How much you pay depends on your financial situation. There are three fees involved:
Basic daily care fee
Means-tested care fee
Accommodation payment
We know there's a lot of information to learn and you will have a lot of questions. Our team is experienced, and will work with you to help you understand the potential cost of residential care with Columbia.
Step 4 - Applying to an aged care home
Talk to us about the application process by contacting our friendly staff, using the details on our Contacts page.
If you are ready to apply for residence, please Contact us for assistance.
Step 5 - Living in an aged care home
Before you move in, an aged care home will offer you a Resident Agreement covering things like services, fees, rights and responsibilities. It's a legal agreement between you and the home that you choose.
